COME WITH IDEAS, NOT GOSSIP
— Dr Lloyd Charges Political Appointees
— Says He Will Not Seek Reelection
The Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Dr Chidi Lloyd has charged political appointees to come up with ideas that will be beneficial to the Local Government rather than gossip to bring each other down.
The council chairman said his administration will not tolerate gossip and unproductivity from any officer of the council, stressing that the days when people used gossip to grow in politics and gain undeserved favour were over.
Dr Lloyd gave the charge at the closing ceremony of the 3-day capacity building retreat organised for the executive arm of Emohua Local Government Council at Krisdera Hotel Omoku on Friday.
He said the political appointees were nominated by the leaders of the Local Government Area not just to receive official entitlements but to contribute to the development of the Local Government Area, stating that he will not hesitate to drop any appointee who fails to live up to their responsibility.
According to the council chairman, his administration have not borrowed money from anywhere to fund projects in the Local Government Area, rather they come up with ideas on how to save money for the development of the area.
“Don’t bring any report about anyone that you can’t defend when I bring you face to face with the person because I don’t patronise gossip.
“You must be productive because your appointment is a privilege and not a right, you are not the best in your wards and communities, you are not better than those who didn’t make the list. You were given this opportunity to join hands with us to move our LGA to the next level, that’s why I will not hesitate to drop any appointee who fails to live up to their responsibility.
“Go and grow the party in your locality because you were nominated to serve her through the party, live exemplary life that will attract new members to the party, don’t scare people away from the party, be the fishers of men in your locality.
“We have completed a state of the art convenience, almost completing the healthcare center in the council and have not borrowed any money from anywhere, rather we think of how to save money for projects and we have released funds for all the projects we are doing”. He stated.
Expressing gratitude to the leadership of PDP for the opportunity given to him to lead the Local Government Council on his return to the party, Dr Lloyd said he takes the privilege given to him as an opportunity for him to change the narrative in the Local Government Area.
The council chairman said he will not be seeking reelection at the end of his tenure in order not to distort the already existing power sharing arrangement in the Local Government Area, hence he is putting his best to register his name in history before the expiration of his tenure.
” I am grateful to the leadership of our party (PDP) for the opportunity given to me to lead the Local Government Council on my return to the party. I wasn’t the most qualified but they settled for me.
“I take this privilege very seriously; to me it is an opportunity to contribute to the development of my LGA and to register my name in history.
“I will not seek reelection, I don’t want to distort the already existing power sharing arrangement in our LGA and nobody will force me to do another term” Dr Lloyd said.
He further charged participants at the capacity building retreat to utilize the knowledge acquired in the 3-days workshop in their respective offices in the council to justify the resources spent by the local government to organise the training.
The Secretary to the Local Government Council, Chief Vincent Chukwu in his vote of thanks on behalf of the participants thanked Dr Lloyd for the opportunity given to the executive arm of the Local Government Council to acquire necessary knowledge to enable them function effectively in their respective office, describing the training as first of its kind in Local Government administration.
The retreat which was themed, ‘Changing the narrative on effective service delivery for good governance’ was also attended by the Vice Chairman of Emohua, Hon Mrs Edna Nyeche and the leader of Emohua Legislative Council, Hon Mrs Love Nyenke, heads of departments and other principal officers of the council.
Highlight of the closing ceremony was the presentation of certificates to participants by the Local Government Chairman.
